Steven Goldberg | Catch a Cuban by the Toe

In the summer of 2021, Dr. Steven Goldberg--a U.S. Marine veteran and practicing psychotherapist--published his debut novel Catch a Cuban by the Toe, the story of a POW's investigation into the seedy underbelly of the American government, which was inspired by actual events. The book explores what it means to be a patriot and delves into the enduring psyche of mentally-ill soldiers and veterans struggling to not only return to society, but to come to terms with all that their government did during those bitter years. 

Since the publication of his book, Dr. Goldberg has been invited to speak at Amvets Savannah (American Veterans), Marine Corps Vets-Atlanta, and the Savannah Writers Group. 

He also entered his book in the Military Writers Association Writing Contest in Richardson, TX and the W.Y. Boyd Literary Award for Excellence in Military Fiction. ​

When asked why he chose to wrote his book, Dr. Goldberg replied, "I chose to write my book for several reasons. First, it was recommended to me by my shrink that putting my feelings and thoughts on paper would relieve me of some experiences I couldn't, or wouldn't, talk about. Writing in third-person made it easier but it still hurt and brought up feelings that I hadn't shared with anyone. Secondly, I wanted to expose readers to PTSD through words, prose, and narrative. Thirdly, I wanted to share information that was, at one time, classified, dealing with our POWs in Vietnam. My book gave me license to insidiously reveal my feelings about subjects that are too taboo for most people." 

Dr. Goldberg, now in his eighties, will be retiring from his practice January 2024.
